About

My life with Baxter, my OES pup.

Hi, I’m Lisa. My body isn’t too fond of gluten, cow’s dairy, or soy.

I’ve been ill since September 2008 and have had stomach problems my entire life.  I can’t count on two hands how many doctors I have been too since then. Just when I was about to give up on the search for the cause of at least some of my health issues, I decided to give natural medicine a try. That has been the best decision yet! After several tests, a little bloodwork and a bold change in diet,  I found out I was intolerant of gluten, the protein found in cow’s dairy, and soy.

If I had known what the  nutritionist was about to tell me in the office that day, a video camera would have been in hand. I was completely shocked and horrified when I found out I couldn’t eat any of the foods I loved. Not only was I intolerant of these foods, they were literally damaging my intestines. Let me give you a short list of what I ate on a normal basis until six months ago: pizza, hamburgers, french fries, texas toast, any Italian dish, tacos, chips, BLT sandwiches, macaroni & cheese, salads with ranch or greek dressing, cereal with milk, waffles, pancakes, loaded baked potatoes, ice cream, cookies, etc.

The week after I got this life-altering news, I realized I needed to learn how to cook. This was pretty humorous considering I couldn’t even “cook” pizza rolls in the oven without burning them. After six months, I have slowly figured out a few tricks to not just cooking, but cooking without normal ingredients. I have started to experiment with different recipes, order from  gluten-free menus at restaurants, and give new products a try. I thought it would be great to share my successes and mishaps at this whole cooking adventure. I’m still an amateur, of course, but am happy to have an apron. I hope you enjoy!

Hi! My website is not about food (although I may eventually add a section on health/food), but I am also living gluten, soy, and mostly casein free. I still don’t have perfect health, but my digestion is so much better since I found out about this kind of diet. I will really enjoy the recipes and tips you share!! Thanks so much for publishing about your experience!!

I would like to connect on Facebook and Twitter, too!

    Happy cooking!!
